The real reason the GOP is paying ex-President Trump's legal bills

Former President Donald Trump consistently boasts about his money and is a self-proclaimed billionaire. That’s one of many reason it’s odd, Jessica Levinson writes, that the Republican National Committee has promised to pay for Trump’s legal bills following investigations that have nothing to do with his presidency.

“The promised payments represent the continuation of the RNC’s strategy to be the party of Trump, nothing more and nothing less,” Levinson writes. “In 2020, the GOP opted not to introduce a new party platform. Instead, its focus was to re-elect Trump. That desire to put Trump back in the Oval Office explains this decision, as well. Trump, of course, is not a candidate, yet. But that does not matter for this unconventional relationship.”
